Whitney is a recent high school graduate from Brant County who is entering her first year in the Honours Science program at the University of Waterloo. Throughout her teenage years, Whitney has been continuously seeking out opportunities to work with youth in her community. In her spare time, Whitney took horseback riding lessons at a local farm and learned about her passion for connecting with and working with horses. She was able to combine her interests in youth work and horse care by volunteering as a barn hand at the farm’s summer camp. There, she cleaned, tacked, and cared for the horses while also helping to teach the campers about farm safety, horse handling, and how to feel comfortable around the horses.
As the Equine Program Coordinator, Whitney hopes to share her knowledge and passion for horsemanship with the youth. She knows first-hand about the positive impact horses can have on a person’s life through the personal connection between the two. She has learned innumerable skills from her past experience with horses and hopes to help the youth develop these skills as well through the Equine Program at the 7R’s Ranch.
