What is the answer for the crisis and turmoil that our youth experience on a daily basis in the community around us? How do we transform neglected and troubled youth into proactive members of society? Where can youth find a safe place to grow and to change their lives around for the better?

Liberty for Youth is a non-profit organization that helps marginalized, neglected, and troubled youth find a new beginning. The clients that Liberty for Youth transform are all individuals whom have been subjected to a troubled past. Selling drugs, active gang participation, substance abuse, and incarceration are the story of many. The emotional and mental hurt that each client has faced is the story of all.

Liberty for Youth is actively involved with such clients in the various established and successful programs already offered. However, Liberty for Youth has a vision to strengthen the success rate of their program through the creation of “Refuge Place”.

Refuge Place will begin as a six bed licensed residential care facility on the outskirts of Hamilton. This will provide the opportunity for our youth to live in a home…a home free from criticism, abuse, and poor influence. Liberty for Youth’s clients will rather experience the necessity of being accepted, guided, and loved. Many for the first time will also understand the true blessing of having food and shelter.

The vision of Refuge Place is….

BELONGING: The main goal of Refuge Place is to provide youth with a change of environment that is critical to their long term success. Being separated from negative peers, gang associates, and drug dealers is critical for the development of ethics and morals over their stay. Once graduated from Refuge Place, our youth will return as independent, responsible, and caring citizens.

FAITH: Refuge Place gathers its inspiration from Christian principles and teachings. Program statistics show that youth who connect with a local church or ministry have quadrupled their likelihood of success. With this in mind, Refuge Place will provide the opportunity to further the spirituality of our youth. Similar to the ministry of Christ, Refuge Place is open to those of differing creed, race, or religion. Nobody should be exempted from the love of Christ or for the ability to succeed.

PURPOSE: At Refuge Place our youth will have the chance to develop into the young men that they were meant to be. Our residents will explore their purpose and passion for life and how it can positively impact their community and world.

RESPECT: Respect is an important trait that will be developed and encouraged at Refuge Place. Our residents will not only learn to respect those in authority, but to most importantly respect themselves through positive choices.

HEALING: Refuge Place will aim to heal the bitterness and hurt that our residents have struggled with throughout their lives. Healing will be aided by the residents new understanding of whom they are and their value.

RESPONSIBILITY: While at Refuge Place the youth will learn the value of money, budgeting, and saving. They will learn the importance of appreciating and valuing an “honest day’s work”.

EDUCATION: Every resident will leave with a planned path to attend post-secondary education. This can include diploma, degree or apprenticeship study.

WELLNESS: Refuge Place will provide opportunities stimulating the mind, body, soul and spirit. This includes fitness, recreation, academics and programming.

Liberty for Youth is currently seeking land for the development of Refuge Place. Thus far, Liberty for Youth have fundraised $52,000 for the creation of Refuge Place.
